In June I spent a week in a dye studio creating my own fabric. I came home with about 15 yards. This is the first piece I made with that fabric. It's about 24 x 32 inches and I titled it 'High Risk'. It is also part of the 'Play' exhibit at the InterUrban ArtHouse. I am really looking forward to working with the rest of the fabric.
Experiments in 3-D
I started with heavy weight cotton and vintage linen napkins that I rust dyed. I made circular columns by inserting wire into sewn ribs and hand stitched random designs on the surface. They made me think of ancient stone monuments. I made 5 so far and they were accepted into the current show, 'Play', at the InterUrban ArtHouse in Overland Park.
And now for something different from me. I've had a lot of fun "thrifting" denim jackets lately and up-cycling with discharge and dye. This weekend I had my first booth at a local craft fair put on by the InterUrban ArtHouse in downtown OverPark, Kansas. I also had some ice-dyed vintage linen napkins and blank note cards printed with my original artwork. It was HOT, but I had a blast talking to
I should have posted this last week. The Reception on the 21st was a blast. I' m a member of the InterUrban ArtHouse and I have a piece in this exhibit titled 'It All Makes Sense in the End'. If you scan th QR code you can find it in the catalogue. Again, I hope my local friends can find the time to see it.
I'm so glad to be part of this group of talented textile artists. I hope my local friends can find the time to see the exhibition.
This started out as a 5"x7" college using hand-painted paper. I decided to blow it up to 24"x32" and use fabric. It wasn't as easy as I thought to maintain an interesting composition in the process. I had to add stuff. I like how it turned out, though.
